Grandad's watch, a coin collection, a painting. Without your note, your family may not know what they're worth and sell them for far too little.

Valuables and collections: description, valuation and where they are kept

Watches, jewellery, coins, paintings, stamps: to you they're often a passion and an investment. To family who don't know their story or their value, they may look like ordinary keepsakes. Without your note, something valuable can be sold for far too little or thrown out during a clear-out.

What to write down

  • a name and short description, for example “Grandad's watch” or “1920s coin collection”,
  • a valuation or certificate: a photo of the document or a rough value,
  • where it's kept, such as “bank safe deposit box” or “home safe”.

Add what you'd like to happen to it as well. “Watch for Jack” or “sell the coins through dealer X, not at auction” saves your family guesswork and arguments.

In the app: Assets, Investments, Savings, then Valuables.
