Term deposits and savings accounts: money that is easy to forget

Money that never shows up in your everyday account is the easiest to overlook. A fixed-term deposit rolls over every year, a savings account opened for a better rate sits at another bank, a regular savings plan runs in the background. When you have a lot on your mind, or nobody can reach you, nobody remembers them.

In one note, write down

  • the name of the bank or building society,
  • the type of product: fixed-term deposit, savings account, ISA or savings plan.

No amounts and no passwords, just something short like “one-year deposit at Bank X, renews in March”. The renewal date is useful: it tells your family when the money can be taken out without losing interest.

In the app: Assets, Investments, Savings, then Savings in Financial Institutions.
