If you're the only one who knows about the stash, the money may never be found. Record the place and how to get to it; the amount isn't needed.

Emergency cash: record where it is, without writing down amounts

Emergency cash is there for when the card doesn't work or something has to be paid right now. But if you're the only person who knows where it is, after a sudden event it can stay hidden for good, or leave the house inside an old wardrobe.

What to write down

  • the place, for example “safe in the study” or “envelope in a book on the third shelf”,
  • how to get to it, for example “key under the plant pot” or “the code is Mum's birth year”,
  • what the money is for, such as “family emergency fund”.

Leave the amount out. A map is enough: you'll find the money quickly when you're stressed, and your family won't miss it if something happens to you.

In the app: Assets, Investments, Savings, then Other Savings.
