FinanceX Magazine, an international fintech and wealthtech publication, has written about LegacyApp and the problem of digital inheritance. In a piece by Koen Vanderhoydonk, the magazine looked at our new GOLD tier and the idea behind it: automated alerts are not always enough to actually deliver an estate, so a trained person should step in when they fail.

The core point

A legal right to an estate is worthless if no one knows the asset exists or where to find access to it.

What FinanceX focused on

The article framed digital inheritance as a financial problem in its own right. For most of history an estate was physical: heirs could find a bank statement, a policy or a deed at the kitchen table. Today bank logins, insurance policies, brokerage and crypto accounts, and cloud-stored documents often exist only on one device or in one person's memory.

The magazine used crypto as the clearest example, citing estimates that 2.3 to 4 million bitcoin, roughly 11 to 18 percent of the total supply, are believed to be permanently lost, part of it because holders died without anyone knowing where to find the seed phrase.

The human "Guardian"

LegacyApp's core product lets you store information about accounts, policies, documents and digital assets, together with your instructions. That content stays private and encrypted while you are alive, and is released only after a defined procedure begins. The free plan triggers an email notification; the premium plan adds SMS.

GOLD adds a person. If email and SMS go unanswered, or the named beneficiary does not start the procedure within seven days, a Guardian steps in: they call, send a registered letter, or reach the recipient through the channel you chose in advance. You can name up to five substitute beneficiaries, contacted in the order you set. The Guardian never sees the content left for your heirs, only the contact details and a single instruction, to deliver the message.

Why it matters for advisers

FinanceX read the launch through the lens of wealth management. GOLD is sold directly, but also through succession advisers and firms offering wealth management and private banking, with one succession advisory firm already adding it to its offering. The magazine placed LegacyApp as an infrastructure layer next to estate planning, rather than a competitor to it.

It also set the timing against a large shift: research firm Cerulli Associates projects that wealth transferred through 2048 will total $124 trillion, with $105 trillion going to heirs. Much of that sits with households comfortable holding digital and alternative assets, exactly the assets that can quietly become inaccessible. FinanceX called "access continuity" an emerging service category in its own right.

Does the Guardian see my private information?

No. The Guardian holds only the contact details you provide and the instruction to deliver the message. Your content stays encrypted and private.
