Do I need a Google Drive or Apple iCloud account to use LegacyApp?

Good news: you probably already have one

To use LegacyApp's full features you need a free cloud account, either Google Drive or Apple iCloud. The good news: if you own a smartphone, you almost certainly already have one, even if you've never really thought about it.

In short

You likely already have what you need. If your phone runs Android, you have a Google account (with Google Drive). If it's an iPhone or iPad, you have an Apple account (with iCloud). LegacyApp uses that account to keep an encrypted backup of your notes and to pass them to your Recipient (we call them "Beneficiary" in the app) when the time comes. No account yet? You can create one for free in a couple of minutes.

You probably already have one

  • Using an Android phone? You already have a Google account, which includes Google Drive.
  • Using an iPhone or iPad? You already have an Apple account, which includes iCloud.

You don't need to buy or set up anything new - LegacyApp simply uses the account you already have.

Why LegacyApp uses it

Your cloud account is what lets LegacyApp:

  • Save an encrypted backup of your notes - in your own cloud, never on our servers.
  • Restore your notes on a new phone whenever you need them.
  • Pass your notes to your Recipient when the time comes.
Important: Without a Google Drive or iCloud account you can still use LegacyApp as a personal organiser on your phone - but you won't have a backup, and your notes can't be passed to your Recipient.
